Born in 2006, Ádám Umathum began his football journey in Mosonmagyaróvár before joining ETO’s academy in 2018. Győr is therefore a familiar environment for him, especially as he represented our club until 2022. He then moved to Puskás Akadémia, where he gained valuable experience both in senior football and on the international stage. He featured in the UEFA Youth League for three consecutive seasons and even found the net during the 2024/25 campaign.

Although he has yet to make his top-flight debut, Umathum has already gained significant experience in senior football with Csákvár in Hungary’s second division. During the most recent season, he made 26 appearances and scored one goal.

The 190-centimetre-tall centre-back is therefore returning to Győr, but this time with very different ambitions:

"I first heard about ETO’s interest towards the end of the autumn season, so it was no surprise that my agent and I wanted to complete the transfer as quickly as possible. Both emotional and professional reasons played a role in my decision to join Győr. I spent four years in the club’s academy, and during that time I grew very fond of both the club and the city. Several of my former teammates are still here today, and we have always stayed in touch, so I was delighted to come home," said Ádám Umathum.

Alongside the emotional connection, a well-founded sporting project also played a major role in his decision — something that reflects considerable maturity for a 20-year-old player.

"I was very impressed by the project the club’s leadership presented to me. Without going into too much detail, if you look at the path the team has taken over the last two seasons and the individual development of the players here, it doesn’t take much explanation as to why my agent and I chose ETO."

He admits he could not watch the title race from a neutral perspective.

"I had known for some time that I would continue my career here, so I followed the championship battle through that lens. Just like the Győr supporters, I was thrilled to see the team win the title. However, playing for a championship-winning side is both a great challenge and a great responsibility."

As for his individual and team objectives in Győr:

"My first goal is to settle into the team as quickly as possible. After that, I want to help the side with consistent performances and earn as many minutes on the pitch as possible. We want to maintain our standards both in terms of performances and results, and compete in a manner worthy of champions on both the domestic and international stage. I hope we can provide our supporters with many more unforgettable moments in the season ahead."

The objective is clear. Good luck, Uma!
